Black Iron Wire Cloth

Mild steel wire mesh and wire cloth are woven from superior-quality low-carbon iron wire in plain weave and twill weave, including Dutch-style constructions for filtration. Black iron wire cloth is the economical workhorse of disposable and semi-disposable filtration: where the filter element is replaced on a schedule, mild steel does the job at a fraction of the cost of stainless.

Filter Discs and Further Processing

Low-carbon steel wire mesh can be punched into circular filters or welded into multilayer mesh filter packs. We supply single-layer discs, rimmed discs, and spot-welded multilayer combinations (for example a fine filtering layer backed by a coarse support layer) cut to your diameter. This is the standard screen-pack construction for plastics extruders and rubber strainers, where the black iron disc is replaced at every screen change.

Applications

Black iron wire cloth is used in the rubber industry, plastics industry, oil industry and cereal sifting. Typical duties include extruder screen packs, oil and fuel strainers, grain and flour sieves, and general workshop screening. Mild steel cloth is magnetic, easy to cut and form, and welds readily — properties that make fabrication fast. Material and Sizes

Material: mild (low-carbon) steel wire, supplied bright-annealed black. Width: 0.6 m to 1.5 m. Length: 30 m or longer per roll. Discs from 10 mm diameter upward. Cloth is oiled lightly and wrapped in moisture-proof paper for shipment, since uncoated mild steel will surface-rust if stored damp.
