Plain Weave Wire Mesh

Macro view of plain weave stainless steel wire mesh showing square openings

Stainless steel wire mesh, as one of the most important products of Anping County Industrial Wire Mesh Factory, can be further divided into Plain Weave, Twill Weave, Dutch Plain and Dutch Twill Weave according to the difference of weaving types. Plain weave is the most commonly used weave: each warp wire crosses alternately above and below each weft wire, and warp and weft wires generally have the same diameter. The result is a square, uniform opening that is easy to specify, easy to inspect and predictable in service.

Materials

Standard materials are stainless steel AISI 304, 316, 304L and 316L. Grade 304 is the economical general-purpose choice; 316 adds molybdenum for better resistance to chlorides and many process chemicals; the low-carbon L grades are preferred where cloth will be welded into filter assemblies. Wire is drawn in-house, so non-standard diameters and other alloys can be quoted on request.

Applications

Stainless steel wire mesh and wire cloth products are widely used in petroleum, chemical industry, environmental protection, mining, aerospace, paper-making, electronics, metallurgy and food processing. Typical duties include sieving and particle grading, liquid and gas filtration, safety guarding, battery and catalyst support screens, and laboratory test sieves. Coarse counts (7-30 mesh) serve as sieves and guards; middle counts (40-100 mesh) handle most industrial filtration; fine counts (120-270 mesh) capture small particles ahead of pumps, nozzles and instruments.

How to Read the Specification

Mesh is the number of openings per linear inch. Wire diameter and mesh count together fix the opening — the clear distance between adjacent wires — which determines what passes through. Two 16-mesh cloths with different wire diameters (0.40 mm vs 0.35 mm) have different openings and different strengths, which is why both appear in our table. Buyers who need a certified cloth can specify manufacture and inspection to ASTM E2016, the standard specification for industrial woven wire cloth, and we will verify mesh count and wire diameter accordingly.

Widths, Lengths and Ordering

Standard roll widths run 0.6 m to 1.5 m with lengths of 30 m; other widths, cut pieces and discs are supplied to order. When inquiring, state mesh count, wire diameter, alloy, roll size and quantity — or simply the particle size you must retain — through our Online Order form. For finer filtration than plain weave can offer, see Dutch weave wire mesh; for heavier wire at high mesh counts, see twill weave.
