Crimped wire mesh is made from carbon iron wire, galvanized steel wire or stainless steel wire. The weaving pattern is weaving after crimping: each wire is pre-formed with regular waves before it enters the loom, so warp and weft lock into each other's crimps at every intersection. The result is a heavy, flat, rigid screen that holds its opening under vibration and impact — exactly what screening decks demand.
General Use
Crimped mesh serves as screening in mines, coal preparation plants, quarries, gravel and sand plants, construction material grading and other industries. Some galvanized crimped wire mesh and stainless steel crimped wire mesh is also produced for food service — roasting and barbecue grids for flour foods and meat — woven from food-suitable wire with smooth, even crimps.
Crimp Styles
- Double crimp — standard lock at each intersection; general screening
- Lock crimp — deeper pockets that grip the crossing wire; high-vibration decks
- Flat top crimp — crimps formed entirely on the underside leaving a smooth wear surface; longer life under sliding abrasive flow
Specifications
Crimped screens are quoted to the deck: typical wire diameters run 1 mm to 13 mm with openings from about 3 mm to 100 mm, woven as rolls or as cut panels with hooked, bound or raw edges. State the screen box dimensions, opening, wire diameter and material — manganese-bearing carbon steel for abrasion, galvanized for weather, stainless for corrosive or food duty — and we will weave to suit. Pre-crimped construction means even very heavy wires stay square; openings are checked across the full panel before shipment.
Safety and Standards Context
Screening decks work inside crushers and washers where guard integrity matters; operators in the United States work under the equipment and guarding rules administered by the Mine Safety and Health Administration. A correctly tensioned, correctly specified crimped screen resists the wire breakage that produces both off-spec product and exposed sharp ends, so do not undersize the wire diameter to chase open area.
