Twill weave stainless steel wire mesh is made with each weft wire passing alternately over two and then under two successive warp wires, and each warp wire passing alternately over two and under two successive weft wires. The diagonal-pattern weave distributes the crossing points, which makes it possible to weave a heavier than standard wire diameter at the same mesh count — the key reason buyers step up from plain weave to twill.
Why Choose Twill Weave
At fine mesh counts, plain weave forces the wire diameter down until the cloth becomes fragile. Twill weave relaxes that constraint: the same 300-mesh cloth can be woven from thicker, stronger wire, giving better resistance to pressure cycling, abrasion and handling damage. The trade-off is a slightly less precise pore geometry than Dutch weave, so twill is the middle ground — finer and stronger than plain weave, simpler and more open than Dutch weave filter cloth.
Materials
Standard materials are stainless steel AISI 304, 316, 304L and 316L. Our stock twill specifications from 325 mesh upward are woven in 316L for filtration service in aggressive media; alloy selection guidance for chloride and acid environments is published by the Nickel Institute, and we can match cloth alloy to your process chemistry on request.
Applications
Stainless steel twill weave wire mesh and wire cloth products are widely used in petroleum, chemical industry, environmental protection, mining, aerospace, paper-making, electronics and metallurgy. Typical uses include fine sieving and powder classification, polymer melt filtration, hydraulic and fuel system screens, and laboratory filtration where the cloth must survive repeated cleaning and backwashing.
