Chain Link Fence

Galvanized chain link fence with diamond mesh pattern along a sports field

Chain link fence — also known as fencing mesh or diamond mesh — is woven from hot-dip galvanized iron wire into the familiar zig-zag diamond pattern. Each spiral is crimped into its neighbor without welds, so the fabric flexes under impact and returns to shape, follows ground contours, and can be repaired by splicing in a new spiral rather than replacing a panel.

Uses

Chain link fences are mainly used as isolation screens and protection systems for expressways and railways; protective fences for rivers, playgrounds and gardens; enclosures for mines and quarries; and security fencing for residential buildings and commercial sites. Sports grounds — tennis courts, ball fields, batting cages — are classic chain link territory because the open weave keeps sight lines clear while containing play. In North America, fabric, framework and installation conventions are documented by the Chain Link Fence Manufacturers Institute, and we manufacture fabric to match those gauge and coating conventions for export buyers.

Finishes and Selvage

Standard fabric is hot-dip galvanized; PVC coated fabric in dark green or black is produced for visual-sensitive sites and coastal exposure. Selvage can be knuckled (safe edge for playgrounds and pools) or twisted (barbed edge for security tops). For maximum deterrence, security installations top the fabric with barbed wire on extension arms.

Specifying a Chain Link Package

Quote requests should state mesh opening, wire diameter (or SWG), finish, fabric height, roll length and total run — plus line wire and tie wire if you want a complete material package; our galvanized iron wire page covers the matching tying wire. Send the details through the Online Order form. For rigid alternatives, compare welded wire mesh panels on short runs and gates.
